Doucal’s footwear, when made in Italy meets British style
Founded at the beginning of the seventies in the shoemaker district of the Marches, Doucal’s is one of the luxury footwear brands, that represents at its best the traditional craftsmanship of the made in Italy, despite the name that evokes a clearly British effect.
At the beginning the men’s footwear producing company indeed was known under the name of Ducale, engl. ducal, what indicates the prestigious and luxurious style. But the founder Mario Giannini’s passion for British footwear and his experience in the British shoemaker district let him change the brand’s name to the English version. With this it got a more international style, while maintaining the founder’s principles and the traditional Italian craftsmanship.
During time Giannini and sons made the brand an inherent part of the luxury footwear not only in Italy, but also abroad, not only by starting to export products, but also with the help of innovative production systems. The evident evolution within the production of Doucal’s footwear can be followed in the small museum created on the inside of the factory, where the companies story from the seventies until today is shown. 
Despite the innovations and the evolution of the market, Doucal’s tradition remains intact thanks to the dedication of the footwear’s manufacture in all its individual production steps, from the selection of the leather to the packaging. The company itself claims that for the realization of one shoe are required circa 200 productions steps and 33 working hours, this also by comparison with the production of other hand-made Haute Couture products is a very long time.
Characterized by an English look but made with Italian manufacture, the Doucal’s men’s footwear represent at its best the mix of influences between a manufacture completely made in Italy characterized by the dedication, love of the detail and design of the British Shoe Manufacture District.
