Geox footwear: the shoe that breathes is born thanks to a hole in the sole
Mario Moretti Polegato was born in the province of Treviso, and began his career as an oenologist in the nineties, he could never have imagined becoming the inventor of the most famous breathable shoe in the world. History, this, inexplicably linked to fate and, of course, a good dose of luck. He was traveling through the Nevada desert when he could no longer bear the torrid heat the rubber soles of his shoes gave him. From here, the brilliant idea! Shred the sole of the shoes with a Swiss army knife et voila “the shoe breathes”, just as the slogan of an advertisement of the early 2000s recited.
Back in Italy, he decided to rework the idea he had in the USA, developing the new breathable technology and patenting it already in that year. He tried to spread this idea around the territory, however, the great magnates and industrialists of the time denied him any kind of trust by leaving him no alternative: to continue experimenting. Thus, he founded Geox, from the union of the Greek name of Earth (GEO) and technology X, improved the patent, extended the production to the clothing and sports shoes sector, consolidating a system in continuous ascent with an increase in 70 countries in the world and the listing on the Milan Stock Exchange.
Today, the activity and production of Geox, which has its headquarters in the province of Treviso where Mr.Geox was born, is based mainly on latest-generation technological patents and on the idea of innovation, not only in the production field but also entrepreneurial. In fact, as well as being one of the most esteemed men in the Italian industrial context and not only, Mario Moretti Polegato has also been honored with important honors, among which he can also boast the appointment as Best Italian Entrepreneur in the world conferred by Ernst & Young Global in 2003.
About technologies … let’s talk about NEBULA®, an example of comfort and breathability, with an internal thermoregulation system and a versatile and very urban design. All the footwear of the NEBULA® line, in fact, have as main characteristic an Inner Breathing System that allows the shoe to breathe thanks to a heterogeneous distribution to “nests” (NET BREATHING SYSTEM), maxi holes and a waterproof membrane with a microporous structure that absorbs and expels the sweat being able to keep out the water.
Almost 30 years have passed since that ingenious invention and it is from that moment that Geox represents a point of reference for all Italians and others.
The Geox shoes are made with leathers treated only with natural substances, the sole is 100% natural rubber and inside are only of vegetable origin. In addition, the shoe is made with a very low energy consumption with an eye to the issue of sustainability, the protection of the plant and animal environment.
